He has been regularly associated with Dawn for the past 40 years. His areas of specialisation include security, politics, foreign policy and national and international issues. He was the Editor of the newspaper from October 1995 to May 2000. As Chief Editor, he was responsible for the following editions: July 2000 to September 2001; April 2002 to August 2002 and September 2002 to July 2003. He has been the Editor of the magazine since October 2003 and has now moved on to work as the Editor of the section ‘Arabic, Farsi, Pashto’. He is also the Editor-in-chief of the second section of Dawn, ‘Politics and International Affairs’. His book ‘The Arabs, Pakistan and Afghanistan’, published in 1999, became a milestone in the debate on the military and political situation in the region. The book was translated into several languages, including English, Farsi and Arabic. He was also the recipient of the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2006.
